The Megaways Slot Machine Featuring a Raging Bison

Here’s a zinger for ya’ll to chew on. Developer Blueprint Gaming has taken the notion of reskinning classic slots and quickly releasing them to a new audience. To explain, if you like Buffalo Rising Megaways, a slot released in 2018, then you would likely enjoy Bison Rising Megaways, a slot released in 2019. The only real difference is that we’ve switched from “Buffalo” to “Bison” in the title. There are probably savvy businesspeople working on the Blueprint Gaming team, and there must be a good commercial rationale for the remake that we just don’t know about yet. Whatever, climb back on the buffalo for another ride if you’re interested.

If you’re familiar with Buffalo Rising Megaways, you’ll feel right at home in Bison Rising Megaways. The aesthetics are the same, showing the same region of North America drawn in the same cartoonish style as before. The desert panorama isn’t any more beautiful today than it was before. Even if there aren’t any spectacular sunsets or cloud formations, it’s still a decent enough day.

From a mathematical model based on recycled art to recycled art. That equates to a medium-to-high risk experience with a potential 96.5 percent RTP. The betting range isn’t very large, starting at 10 p/c and going up to £/€10 each spin, but this should be plenty for the majority of players. Bison Rising Megaways is playable on any device, and it has a game grid with 6 vertically rotating reels and 1 horizontal reel with 4 symbols. In other words, it’s a standard Megaways layout.

When you press the spin button, the first and sixth reels will both have a 2, the middle four reels will feature a 6, and the top reel will feature a 4. The maximum number of possible winning combinations is 117,649 and increases as the number of symbols increases. When identical symbols appear on consecutive reels, beginning at the leftmost reel, a win is awarded. Six of a kind wins for the lower paying card ranks (9–Ace) pay 1-1.5 times the wager, followed by elk, wolves, beers, and bison, which pay 2–50 times the wager for six of a kind. Wilds may be employed in place of regular pay symbols to assist form winning combinations, and they only show on the first reel.

Features of the Bison Rising Megaways Slot

The gameplay of Bison Rising Megaways is livened up in the same ways as previously, with cascades, mystery symbols, free spins, and even a Bison Bet.

Falling Symbols

The cascade feature causes a domino effect when winning combinations cascade off the reels. Symbols cascade down to fill the gaps, and the feature continues to run as long as there are new wins being made.

Secret Symbols

The location of the mysterious symbols is arbitrary. When a cluster of mystery symbols appears, they all change into a single symbol—anything but the diamond free spins scatter, which triggers more free spins.

No Risk Turns

The free spins bonus round is activated by landing at least four scatter symbols anywhere on the main six reels (as opposed to the top reel) during the basic game. If more than four scatters are needed to activate the feature, additional free spins will be awarded. The screen then changes to show the player four distinct bonus round options:

You get 15 bonus spins with a multiplier of x1 on all wins. More than four scatters will result in an additional four free games.

Ten free spins with a win multiplier of at least five times. Each additional dispersion beyond the initial four triggers an additional two free games.

There are 5 free spins with a multiplier that begins at x10. Each additional dispersion beyond the initial four will result in an additional free game.

You’ll get 1, 5, or 10 times your initial bet when you win during the Mystery Choice feature’s 5-10-15 free spins.

The win multiplier during free spins grows by one after each cascade, indefinitely. It’s also possible for scatter symbols to show up on the first four reels. If you get 3, 4, or 5 of them, you’ll get 5, 10, or 15 more spins, accordingly.

Buffalo Odds

Just picture Bill and Ted yelling, “Buffalo!” This occurs when a player gets a buffalo win or activates the Bison Bet, which allows some players to purchase free spins at a cost of 100 times their initial wager. Following purchase, one may select from the aforementioned quartet of upgrades. The return on the Bison Bet is 97.01 percent.

Slot Review: Bison Rising Megaways

Right? In a weird way Blueprint Gaming has slapped out another slot machine with a slight title tweak. There is probably some astute commercial consideration that led to this decision. Aristocrat and Pragmatic Play got into a spat not so long ago over who had the right to trademark the most buffaloes or the most distinctive expressions on their faces or something like that. Of course, this is only speculation, and the rebranding of the highways from Buffalo Rising Megaways to Bison Rising Megaways likely has nothing to do with the former. But, who knows? Reviewing Bison Rising Megaways was made more interesting by the opportunity to conjecture about the game’s backstory.

The second half of the equation was actually playing it, and I will say that Bison Rising Megaways is a solid Megaways game with a buffalo—er, bison—theme. It wouldn’t exactly be bursting with originality even if it were an entirely unique release. Cascades, hidden symbols, and free games with a progressive multiplier that can increase by an infinite amount are the basic features. Although giving players a say in the free spins/starting win multiplier combination they receive isn’t common, it’s also not as novel now as it was when Buffalo first came out. The maximum win remains at 250,000 credits or 50,000x the stake, whichever is less; however, this may be overly optimistic, since there has never been an official 50,000x hit, or even close to it, to our knowledge.

The release of Buffalo Rising Megaways was a while ago; much has changed since then. Bison Rising Megaways is still a good option if you’re looking for a Megaways game that features bison and other prairie animals. The potential is there, the features are tried and true, and the ability to pick your own free spins round is a nice bonus. Overall, Bison Rising Megaways is dependable and efficient without being too spectacular.
